Hypnotherapy for Exam Nerves
How can hypnotherapy help with Exam Nerves?
Exam stress is becoming more and more of an issue particularly for young people faced with public examinations, university exams or driving tests. However, this lack of confidence or fear of failure can also be extended to high anxiety levels or even panic attacks when faced with job interviews or presentations.
Every symptom you experience during a panic attack is a natural, harmless part of the body’s fight or flight reaction where the hormone adrenalin is released when there is a perception of threat or danger. People in these situations will often experience the freeze effect, unable to physically move or think clearly and unable to break free of its crippling effect.
Hypnotherapy will look to discover the underlying causes of these anxiety attacks, perhaps discovering an initial event in the past which has triggered these thoughts and fears. Through relaxation techniques, you can learn how to slow your heart-rate variability to breathe deeply and regularly and to use anchoring techniques to restore the sense of imbalance. In essence we are looking to replace negative, fearful and catastrophic thoughts with positive coping statements. Often tied in with these presenting issues are others such as low self-esteem and confidence, fear of failure, fear of fear as well as acceptance and resilience issues. Through some ‘reframing’ techniques the subconscious mind can learn to approach similar future situations with literally a different mind-set to break the cycle.
