Stress is the initial reaction our bodies go through when faced with something potentially threatening. This is typified in feelings of anger, frustration or nervousness. Underlying stress is often a sense of fear, rooted in the subconscious whose primary function is protection and survival. In situations where we feel threatened it will resort to the age-old fight or flight mechanism in us and so creates these feelings as a means to protect us.
If stress exceeds a person’s ability to cope, it often leads to unhelpful behaviours and habits such as smoking, alcohol/substance abuse and emotional eating. As part of this, negative beliefs can be overwhelming and this can lead to anxiety and depression which reduces the chances of self-healing. All of us have the capacity within ourselves to self-heal and this is where hypnotherapy comes in. It can give you back the control and confidence in your own abilities, and help you to feel calmer in any situation.
In our sessions, I will introduce you to relaxation techniques that will help you to relax and guide you in unhooking yourself from the thoughts that usually hook you in. We will look at discovering the root cause of your negative thoughts and through hypnosis make suggestions to build confidence and self-esteem and silence your inner critic. We will perhaps undertake some inner child work to help you learn some self-acceptance and find that inner peace and calm you are craving.
